* a piece of cake : 식은 죽 먹기 = as easy as pie = breeze
ex) The exam was a piece of cake. 그 시험은 진짜 쉬웠어.
* a white lie : 선의의 거짓말
ex) It is sometimes necessary to tell a white lie to the patient. 때로는 환자에게 선의의 거짓말을 하는 것이 필요하다.
* act one's age : 나이에 걸맞게 행동하다
ex) Please act your age and don't act like a baby. 나이에 걸맞게 행동하고 버릇없이 굴지 말길 바란다.
* all thumbs : 몹시 서툴고 어색한 것
ex) Poor Bob can't play the piano at all. He's all thumbs. 가엾게도 Bob은 피아노를 전혀 못 친다. 그는 손재주가 없다

ex) That seems to be a drop in the bucket. 그것은 새 발의 피로 보여.
* a far cry from : ~와는 거리가 먼[전혀 다른] 경험
ex) He's a far cry from his brother. 그는 그의 형과는 영 딴판이다
* a mixed blessing : 좋기도 하고 나쁘기도 한 것 [something that has advantages and disadvantages]
ex) Sometimes being a survivor can be a mixed blessing. 때때로 생존자가 되는 것은 해가 될 수도 득이 될 수도 있다.
* a pain in the neck : 아주 귀찮은 사람[것], 골칫거리 [an annoying or troublesome person or thing]
ex) That job is a pain in the neck. 저 일은 하기가 귀찮다.

ex) You have slapped her in the face. 너는 그녀를 모욕했어.

* storm in a teacup(UK) =a tempest in a teapot(US) : (별것도 아닌 걸 두고 벌이는) 괜한 소동 ex) It was just a storm in a teacup. 그것은 그저 작은 파란이었다.
* turn a deaf ear (to somebody/something) : (~을) 귀담아듣지 않다[무시하다]
ex) He turned a deaf ear to the rumours. 그는 그 소문들을 귀담아듣지 않았다.
* in ages : 오랫동안
ex) Hi, Ted! I haven't seen you in ages. 안녕, Ted! 오랜만이다.
* (pull, wear, etc.) a long face : 우울한[실망한] 얼굴(을 하다)
ex) Why are you pulling the long face? 왜 시무룩한 표정이야?
* (just) around/round the corner : (시간적) 바로 코앞에, (공간적) 바로 근처에
ex) The summer vacation is just around the corner. 곧 여름 방학이 온다.
* be fed up with : 질리다, 지겹다
ex) I‘m fed up with my job. 내 일에 질렸어.
* beat around the bush : 둘러말하다, 요점을 피하다, 문제점을 꺼내 말하기를 주저하다
ex) Don't beat around the bush - get to the point! 돌려 말하지 말고 요점을 말해!
* (It) Beats me : 전혀 모르겠다 =Search me =I have no idea = I have no clue.
ex) It beats me how she got the job. 그녀가 어떻게 직업을 가졌는지 전혀 모르겠어.
* behind bars : 철창 속에 갇힌[철창신세인]
ex) The murderer is now safely behind bars. 살인자는 이제 철창신세이다.
* break the ice : 서먹서먹한[딱딱한] 분위기를 깨다
ex) To break the ice, he talked about the weather. 그는 서먹서먹한 침묵을 깨려고 날씨 얘기를 꺼냈다.
* black[pass] out : (잠시) 의식을 잃다
ex) She lost too much blood and passed out. 그녀는 피를 너무 많이 흘려서 정신을 잃었다.
* black sheep : (집안/조직의) 골칫덩어리, 말썽꾼
ex) He's the black sheep of the family. 그는 집안의 골칫거리야.
* blow one's top[lid, stack] : 화내다, 불끈하다
ex) She blew her top when he said bad things to her. 그가 그녀에게 나쁜 말을 하자 그녀가 화가 머리끝까지 났다.
* butter somebody up : (비유적 의미로) 기름을 치다[아부를 하다]
ex) It's no use trying to butter me up. 내게 아첨해도 소용없어.
* break somebody's heart : ~를 비통하게 만들다[~의 가슴을 찢어 놓다]
ex) She broke his heart when she called off the engagement. 그녀는 파혼을 하여 그를 비통하게 만들었다.

ex) Both of us bring home the bacon[groceries]. 우리는 맞벌이 부부입니다.
* by the skin of your teeth : 간신히[가까스로]
ex) He escaped from the secret police by the skin of his teeth. 그는 비밀경찰로부터 간신히 도망쳤다.
* by word of mouth : 사람들의 입에서 입으로[구전으로]
ex) The news spread by word of mouth. 그 소식은 사람들의 입에서 입으로 전해졌다.
* have[get] butterflies in the stomach[tummy] : 안달하다, 안절부절 못하다
