Zombie is a quite common movie material because it's exciting for the viewers to see them killed in mass.
When I learned about where this character was originated from, I was so saddened.
Actually, in colonial era, many African salves were sent to Haiti to work at the immense plantations.
More and more slaves committed suicide because of inhumane workload and very poor working conditions.
In the eyes of the owners of suicial slaves, it was a big loss for their wealth. And then they created a superstition that a suicidal slave's body will be controled and manipulatd by wicked wizards. Since this rumor spreaded, the number of suicides among the slaves might have sharpely decreased but their hellish lives must have continued.
